Troi Activator Background Processing

This example shows how you can use a FileMaker Runtime application to do processing in the background.

Getting the needed background application

Due to the size of the runtime application (6.2 Mb) we have NOT included the runtime application "BackProcess Solution X" in this download.

To see this example in action there are several possibilities:

Running without a runtime

You can run this example in 2 copies of FileMaker on one computer, for example "Foreground.fp5" in FileMaker Pro 6 and "BackProcess.bgx" in FileMaker Pro 5.5.

If you have FileMaker Developer:

To save on download time, you can bind the file "BackProcess.bgx" to your own runtime application. Then place it in the folder "BackProcess Runtime Mac OS X".

If you don't have FileMaker Developer:

Alternatively you can download "BackProcess Solution X" from our website, here:

<http://www.troi.com/software/activatordownload.html>

Then put the copy of the "BackProcess Solution X" in the folder "BackProcess Runtime Mac OS X" to run this example.

Getting started

After you have done this:

  1. Open the folder "BackProcess Runtime Mac OS X".
  2. Put a copy of the Activator Plug-in in the "Filemaker Extensions" folder of the "BackProcess Runtime Mac OS X" folder.

See the "Mac OS Plug-in" folder in the download.

  3. Start the "BackProcess Solution X" application. This will open up the BackProcess.bgx file.
  4. Open the ForeGround.fp5 file. You may need to move the BackProcess.bgx file to keep the results visible.
  5. Change the data if needed (probably 'YourNumber' only) and then click the button "Start background processing".

TIP The binding key on Mac OS X is: tr20040106macosX

We also have a Mac OS 9 runtime application, see on our website for this. We don't have a Windows example at the moment.
